Thank you ALL Middle School Teachers and Scholars for keeping the noise level low while our 3-5 scholars tested last week. You were AWESOME!!! Great endurance to ALL grade levels and content areas that have tested so far. You have taught your scholars great strategies and they are using EVERY LAST ONE! Scholars are demonstrating that they have mastered endurance. Give a BIG Thanks to Ms. Edmonds and the Cafeteria Staff for their flexibility during testing. Remember to thank Test Administrators and Proctors for their great assistance. Some are completing two and three testing sessions per day. That is no easy task. Check your email for messages from UNC EPIC Chapel Hill and look for the title NCT Project Online Survey. Thank you for completing the survey to have your voices heard. Time Off All planned time off must be approved by Mrs. McGeachy prior to Ms.Cole entering the absence in Aesop. Best practice is to request time off immediately upon scheduling an appointment to avoid forgetting the appointment, as well as to ensure you have adequate coverage. Remember anytime off campus for an appointment requires that you take leave whether for a day, 1/2 day or an hour for everyone's protection---even if your team has agreed to cover your class. If something happens while you are off campus on the clock, we are responsible. Contact Mrs. McGeachy if you have questions. Grades Grades should be entered into PowerSchool in a timely manner. We are encouraging parents to check their students' grades frequently in parent portal to avoid surprises at the end of the grading period. At the very least, grades should be entered weekly. Each category should have multiple grades to get a true picture of a student's level of mastery. Duties, Transitions, and Supervision The admin team will be highly involved in instruction, kindergarten transition meetings, retention meetings, and hiring interviews for the remainder of the year reducing our availability and flexibility. We ask that you be proactive to minimize student misbehavior. Respond immediately if you see something that needs to be addressed. All staff should be in the hallways during transitions, on time for your duty, and supervise students at all times. Be consistent and in close proximity to students at all times. Ask your scholars to give her a thumbs up, wave from the line, or a high five to let her know how glad we are to have her back. Intrinsic Motivation vs. Standardized Tests Have you ever wondered why student class performance surpasses standardized test results? I often hear from parents (and teachers) that students suffer from test anxiety. That may be true in some cases, but it can also be a lack of motivation. I encourage you to read this article focused on being uninspired, not unknowledgeable and what you can do to help your students. Reminders and Upcoming Events...Walking Field Trips All Walking Field Trips must be submitted to me at least a week in advance. I encourage you to celebrate student achievements, however; it is critically important that we have adequate time to get permission slips and change course in the event I have other events come up suddenly. Time Off All planned time off must be approved by Mrs. McGeachy prior to Ms.Cole entering the absence in Aesop. Best practice is to request time off immediately upon scheduling an appointment to avoid forgetting the appointment, as well as to ensure you have adequate coverage. Blazing the Way Through MMA Transition Plan Many thanks to Ms. Palmer and SIT for developing a transition plan for our scholars moving from grade to grade and/or level to level. Friday, May 25 will be a schoolwide transition day for MMA. We ask that each grade level complete a plan for their scholars and grade level presentations. Plans should be completed by Tuesday to allow us ample opportunity to address issues that may not have been considered. Fifth grade has completed their planif you need a sample to follow. Ms. McCormick, Ms. Passavant, and Mr. Perry will cover the gym for 8th grade scholars not serving as leaders. We will also use co-teachers and TAs to assist with transitions so that classroom teachers are available to receive students to their classrooms. Ask your grade level/department SIT representative if you have questions. Senior Walk We are excited to welcome the Tarboro High School Seniors to MMA for their Senior Walk on Tuesday at 9:45. This is a great opportunity for our scholars to witness the results of hard work and where they will be as the Class of 20--! Think of creative ways to cheer them on--posters, banners, noise makers--whatever you and your scholars can think of to let them know how proud we are of the Senior Vikings and what they have accomplished. This is a huge milestone that should be properly celebrated. We will line up at 9:40 as listed below so that we are in place when they arrive. The graduating Vikings will enter through the front door, travel down past the cafeteria, through the double doors, down past the 5th grade hallway, 3rd and 4th grade hallways, back to the atrium where they will exit to board their buses for departure.

The simple act of a positive phone call can make a world of difference. Parents who receive positive feedback from teachers feel they have an ally at school. If they feel the teacher sees the good qualities of their child, they may be more comfortable reaching out to that teacher when they have concerns. |

How can we make this a successful night? (1) Teachers and other volunteers will be working each station. We are looking for enthusiasm over expertise!!! A description of each activity is listed here. https://tinyurl.com/y7heh26o (2)Display your Global Citizen Scientist project with a description of what the project was about this night in the Atrium. (3) Lend classroom items such as scissors. A list of those items will be posted soon. (4) Promote the event in your classroom!! | Be on the lookout for Kelvin! He is the "spokesbot" for the North Carolina Science Festival -- a friendly robot who serves as the mascot for the Festival and as an ambassador for science. If you have the opportunity, take photos of him with your students and post the photos to your Facebook or Twitter account. #ncscifest Kelvin visited many classrooms last year.
